The S602Z features the 3rd generation of Fuji's SuperCCD technology, which features CCD photo diodes that are octagonal in shape. This allows for more density on the CCD chip, and is said to mimic the human eye in its increased
resolution on the diagonal instead of the vertical and horizontal. Since graphic formats use horizontal-vertical layouts, the camera must convert from diagonal between sensor elements to create the horizontal-vertical layout. The S602Z CCD features 3.1 megapixels, while in-camera interpolation allows the camera to save with up to 6 megapixels. There is a love/hate relationship with this -- some people claim no improvement, but the general consensus is that this interpolation makes the S602Z on par with most 4 megapixel cameras.
