| Most digital cameras sharpen pictures rather aggresively in camera. This makes for better viewing on screen but causes some problems when post processing or when printing images. Canon has elected to do minimal sharpening in camera (but the default is more than the 10d). You can either up the in-camera sharpening or you can post process the images and add sharpening later. The images respond very well to sharpening later.
Also note - I am assuming here your pictures are soft and not out of focus. There is a signficant difference.
